Wed. January 5, 2011 Last date for School Registration forms to be postmarked
and returned. Completed!
Wed. February 9, 2011 Last date for Student Registration forms to be postmarked
and returned. No teams will be accepted after this date.
Wed. February 16, 2011 All essay entries must be received at the University of
Florida to ensure that they can be judged, returned, and
corrected before they must be turned in to the National Olympiad.
Wed March 2, 2011 Last date to register team correction/substitutions. Any
student not registered by this date will not be allowed to
participate. New students may submit essays at this time.

UF Chemical Engineering Lab Field Trip!
This letter will be coming home today along with a Permission Slip for the field trip.
Parents of SECME students,
As many of you know we are approaching the SECME competition rather quickly. I will send additional information about our coming schedule relating to the competition. That is coming soon. I will also be posting information to my blog http://mresscience.blogspot.com/ if you need to refer without finding these papers.
We have an action-packed month ahead, so please check regularly to stay up to date.

Field Trip:
On Thursday January 27 SECME is scheduled to visit the UF Department of Chemical Engineering Lab. We will learn about Biomimetics and get to experience and learn about a working lab, researchers, and lab tools. This experience will be invaluable for our budding young scientists! A big thanks to Professor Peng Jiang (Helena’s Dad) for hosting us on this trip and providing crystal samples for our club to form and study.
Logistics:
-All students must have a signed and returned permission slip by next Thurs. 1/20. If they do not have permission forms they will get on their normal bus or go to parent pick up instead.
-We will leave campus on a school bus at 1:30 and return at 3:30. Please pick up your students at school in the normal location from 3:30-3:45 (as usual).
-The field trip is free thanks to UF and Professor Jiang!
-If you would like chaperone please let me know in advance so we can make sure we have all volunteer forms and necessary information on file.

New Year, new schedule!
Happy New Year everyone! I am looking forward to another great semester of science at Williams. Below is the club schedule for the spring. If you have any questions please ask.

Potato Fun!
Well, another awesome month of science at Williams! This last month we:
-Learned about air pressure by launching potatoes 100+ meters with a bike pump and pvc pipe.
-Inertia experiments like the old pull the table cloth from under the dishes
-made a first round of mouse trap cars
-Dropped eggs from the roof of the lab
We are looking forward to many exciting new experiments in the New Year!
Last club of 2010 is SECME on Thurs. 12/16 until 3:45

Science Club this Thursday!
We will have our first session with the Science Explorer's Club this Thursday, September 23. The club will run from 1:45-3:45.

Excellent first month!
We have had an excellent first month in school so far! We have done the following experiments in the lab:
4/5th grade: Which Soap Makes the Biggest Bubbles?
Which Soil Absorbs the Most Water?
Made our own Lava Lamp
Density (Oil and Water)
Matter Magic Tricks with various materials
3rd grade: Matter magic with balloons, gas, etc.
Seed pod dissection.
Yeast growth.
2nd grade:
Seed Pods
Yeast observations
Polymers (Oobleck)
In SECME we built very strong structures with nothing but toothpicks and marshmallows!

Welcome to Mister E Science!
Welcome all to the new blog page of Mister E's Science class and club at Williams Elementary in Gainesville, Fl. I am looking forward to a great year in the science lab and a new adventure in SECME participation at UF.
